Ode to a laundromat

I don't know if anyone else feels the same way I do about laundromats. I find them immensely calming places. I love sitting in enforced relaxation, reading a book, knitting or listening to a podcast, whilst listening to the soothing hum of the dryers.

Today I discovered, by pure accident, a laundromat hidden under some shops up a side street. It was like stepping back in time about 40 years. There was absolutely no pretension about it - old travel posters on the wall, black and white TVs that didn't work, faded handwritten notes explaining which machines didn't work and one very comfy chair in which to read. On a wet Sunday afternoon I was the only one there.

And I am even more resolute to not buy a clothes dryer...

Rainbows from the window

There is a very ugly weed outside our bedroom window...but it does have one saving grace - it attracts these beautiful Rainbow Lorikeets.

Happy Retro Placemats

We have got a beautiful "new, old" table for our back deck. It is pre-loved, rustic and very inviting. We have taken to having our breakfast on it. As a hoarder of retro fabrics, I am always on the lookout for something to make with my stack of fabric and "breakfast placemats" came to mind last week. They are backed with calico.

This is the result and I am very happy with their cheery disposition.

Brisbane on foot...

Oh I have been so slack with my posting for a few months...just uninspired I guess. Must get back on track again. Over the past few weeks, hubbie and I have been exploring our various inner city neighbourhoods on foot, at dusk, a different route each time. We head out at dusk because it is too darn hot any other time - except at dawn and I am afraid we are not morning people.

Initially I set out free as a bird, not carrying a thing on me - but lately, inspired by the very "Queensland"  streetscapes and beautiful light at this time of day, I have started carrying my phone to take pictures. I have edited them rather coarsely with a phone app.
